Western Electric Ad November 1964Full color 9 3/4″ x 13 1/2″ ad that has us realizing just how little the items they work with are getting to be. The picture in the ad says “New look in transistors – small as a needle’s eye” and you wonder, without having read the ad, just what they are talking about. They ad says that “There are two transistors on this tiny square of metal. They have been magnified 200 times so that you can see them. Life-size, at left, they are invisible to the naked eye. Yet these electronic midgets, which can switch on or off in 10 billionths of a second, are important components in one of the Bell Telephone System’s new electronic switching systems. They are examples of what engineers call “micro-miniaturization””.
