Description

Volkswagen Bug Ad December 1971VW Bug – Black and white 10″ x 13 1/2″ ad with the ad being a single line drawn on a white sheet of paper. This line drawn does indicate the shape of a VW Bug and has the slogan “The shape of things to come” under it. The ad text consists of seven Predictions made by the guys who wrote this ad. The first Prediction is that the VW Beetle will be around for years to come. Wrong. The second Prediction was that someone somewhere will introduce a new economy car and there will be lots of excitement. Wrong again. The third Prediction is that the excitement will die down. Well, it didn’t build up so it couldn’t die down. The fourth Prediction was that people who then owned VW‘s would trade them in for new ones. Well, that’s sort of right. The fifth Prediction was that their engineers would continue to improve the way the car works and their stylists would continue to be frustrated. That one is close. The sixth Prediction was that sometime in 1972 the Beetle would become the most popular single model automobile ever made passing the Model T. That one is pretty much good. And the last one is that they won’t let that last prediction go to their heads.
