Description

Cycle Trades Of America Ad 1940Black and white 5″ x 13 3/4″ ad that is for the Cycle Trades Of America. The picture in this ad shows Peggy Moran, an actress who was featured in the New Universal Picture called “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love, Baby”. She can be seen riding a bicycle through the countryside as she is saying “It’s easy to keep slim on a Bike”. There are three cartoon-strips that show a family riding bicycles. In the first one it shows a daughter riding next to her mother and the daughter is saying “Mother, you look lots younger since you began to ride a bike”. The mother answers “I feel younger too, dear”. In the next one, the father is riding a bike and he states as he is riding by his neighbor “Boy, I’d forgotten how good it is to ride a bike. Lost my indigestion. Got my old pep back. I feel swell”. In the final cartoon it shows a young boy riding along with his dog running next to him and he is saying, to the dog I guess, “Gee, I’m glad I asked Dad for a bike. It’s making my legs and lungs good and strong. I’m going to be a star athlete some day”. At the bottom there is a picture of, probably the four people who were “cartooned” in the ads and the ad text says that “It’s fun to ride a bike. Movie stars know that riding a bike is a safe, pleasant aid to a slender, graceful figure. But the best about bicycling is this, it’s good fun, and good for your whole family. And it’s not expensive. Your neighborhood dealer in bikes has just the right model for every member of the family. Why not see him today. Get in on the fun at once!”.
