Description
Full color 9 3/4″ x 13 1/2″ ad that is for their Campbell’s Chicken Gumbo Soup. In this ad we have a drawing of a field in which Okra is being grown, all the way from just budding to flowering fully. The ad headline says “How an African flower has been tamed for the soup kettle. (Okra is a typical example of the pains Campbell’s takes to begin with the best)”. The story begins: “Originally a native of Africa, Okra is an ornery sort of vegetable. Long, sharp spines stab the unwary picker of the edible pods. The pods have to be picked at exactly the right time to be at their full-flavored best. An experienced picker knows when the pod is ready by the color, but the Okra plant hides the pods under its broad green leaves. Okra’s delicate flavor combines unusually well with chicken in soup. Campbell, with its genius for blending, uses Okra in its good Chicken Gumbo. It’s also a tasty part of Campbell’s Vegetable Soup“. This is only a part of the story, there is much more to be told.
