Campbell’s Ad - April 1964Full color 9 3/4″ x 13″ ad that tells the story of what went into the production of Campbell’s Green Pea Soup to make it better. The ad starts off with a picture of three bags filled with Green Peas, under the heading that tells us “To make the best, begin with the best – then cook with extra care”. The headline of the ad tells us “How Campbell rescued a vanishing flavor. A story about a rare green pea that was down to its last 2 1/2 bushels”. It then tells us that “Sometimes, finding the very best ingredients for a particular food we’re cooking can turn into quite a project. This is exactly what happened in the case of the peas used in Campbell’s Green Pea Soup. In a certain rather rare green pea we found the exact qualities our chefs were looking for. Used in combination with selected sweet peas, this particular pea adds a greener color, a unique flavor, and a richer body than you can get with any other type of pea alone”. The ad goes on in its story of how they tried and tried and then, the last crop succeeded. They had managed to save the future of Green Pea Soup!
