Smirnoff Vodka Ad August 1963Full color 10″ x 9 1/2″ ad that answers the question, “Which comes first, Commander…the Smirnoff or the Schweppes?”. There is a picture for the ad that shows a man with a strange type of beard who is sitting in a chair at a table and he is holding up a glass of what it probably Smirnoff, and maybe a little Schweppes. This person, Commander Whitehead, says that “For an unforgettable Vodka and Tonic, pour the liquor first, then add the tonic, slowly”. The secret is to use Smirnoff with Schweppes. They claim that “Nobody has ever been able to imitate Schweppes thirst-quenching, bittersweet flavor“.
