Description

Campbell’s Ad July 1963Full color 9 1/2″ x 13″ ad for the special care that Campbell’s uses in choosing and preparing the meats that go into their foods. There is a picture of a cold room with a table filled to overflowing with a variety of appealing, if you are not a vegetarian, meats. Standing behind this display are the Campbell Kid and long-time meat cutter Tony Mietla. The Kid has his usual innocent look on his face and Tony, who is sharpening one of his knives, seems to be looking at the Kid with more than a causal interest. The ad headline explains that “To make the best, begin with the best – then cook with extra care” and the text explains “Why Campbell’s meats are always right for the recipe”. If I had looked at this ad years ago I would have been on the lookout for strands of red hair or a tattered piece of a white Campbell chef’s hat in my soup.
