Description

Imperial Whiskey Ad 1952Black and white 10″ x 14″ ad with a photo of a group of men cooking clams by the side of a large lake and the headline tells you that “You’re 3,000 miles from the Ritz”. There are six men, that I see, in this photo and they are dressed warmly and sitting around a campfire working on cooking clams. Conveniently located, in the center of the picture, is a bottle of Hiram Walker’s Imperial Blended Whiskey with the label facing towards the camera. The ad says that if we “Join this clambake and you’re far away from gleaming linen and silver, and bustling waiters. For this crowd knows how to prove that simple pleasures are best. Here, the proof consists of clams fresh-steamed over the embers of a driftwood fire, friendly talk and warming drinks of a smooth and mellow whiskey called Imperial. This whiskey is made from Hiram Walker – made with so much care and skill that Imperial is always mild, always remarkably good-tasting. So many people – people like you – prefer Imperial that it has become one of the very largest selling whiskies in America. Isn’t that convincing proof of Imperial’s excellence?”
