Description

Hotpoint Ad November 1956Full color 9 3/4″ x 13 3/4″ ad for Hotpoint Portable Hi-Vi TV’s. This ad starts off with a picture of a woman who is peeling a potato, with a claim that there is “New fun in the kitchen (and everywhere else you go!)” and we are to assume that she is watching television due to the interest she is showing in her face. The ad text starts off by explaining what they mean by the word, Hi-Vi, that they were using in their ads. “This is the new word that describes a new high in vivid, lifelike pictures – and a new high in vivid, realistic sound. ‘Hi-Vi’ stands for ‘high’ and ‘vivid'”. It promises in TV what ‘hi-fi’ promises in recordings”. This ad shows three of Hotpoint’s popular portable Televisions that they were selling. First, it shows an amazing 13 1/2-lb Portable which it called the lightest Portable TV ever, Model 9S102. Then it shows the Big Hotpoint all-purpose Portable which it says weighed just 32 lbs but gives you BIG picture, Model 17S302. Last it showed the New Hotpoint De Luxe Portable which it claimed goes with you to the kitchen, around the house on your daily rounds, wherever you go, Model 14S202.
