Description

Heinz Ad 1937Black and white 9″ x 13″ ad that proposes another way for Husbands to be considered “thoughtful”. The ad has a picture of a housewife opening the front door of her house to see her husband and their child trying to gain admittance. The husband, with a hopeful look on his face, is holding two cases of products from Heinz. The top case is labeled as Heinz Vegetable Soup and the bottom is turned around so all that is visible is the big 57 on the side. The look on the Husband’s face is, as I said, hopeful and the look on the face of his Wife is a combination of surprise and “What?”. The headline on the ad says “Return Engagement” and the ad talks about the penchant that men have for bringing home something out-of-the-ordinary. It talks about what he holds in his hands being something that will make meal preparation easier and “a delight rather than a drudgery”. It also refers to buying in bulk like he did by saying “The case way, incidentally, of buying Heinz products saves sufficient time and money to permit more frequent visits to the florists”.
