Description

General Electric Ad 1942Full color 9 1/2″ x 13 1/2″ wartime ad for their Automatic Blankets or, as we call them now, an Electric Blanket. There is a picture of a man with a wary look in his eyes as he heads toward his bed wearing red long-johns, a hat and soft boots and carrying the skin of a dead lion over his shoulder. The headline reassures him to “Drop that Lion-Skin Uncle Lem! One G-E Automatic Blanket will keep you warm all night, every night.” The text mentions the light weight of these blankets and has you imagine every inch of the bed being warm, not just the spot that you have been occupying. It mentions a price of $34.50 but warns you that what is on hand will be “The Last Till Victory” since the blanket factory has been converted to making Electrically heated flying suits, shoes, gloves and other equipment for the Armed Forces.
