Description

Clapp’s Baby Food Ad September 1943Full color 7 3/4″ x 10″ ad that has the headline “A Dinnertime Story with the happiest ending a baby ever ate!”. Their stores are not meant to be told to a child to make it eat but rather to be told to a mother to encourage her to buy Clapp’s Baby Foods to keep her child healthy and growing. The first picture says “Once there was a handsome carrot” and shows a carrot who is the envy of the rabbits that stand looking at in awe. Picture No. 2 says “You’ve never seen a carrot so proud and shows this carrot being transported, all by itself, on the back of a truck. Picture No. 3 shows what happens when there is too much pride because the caption says “Well, before it knew what happened” and the carrot is trapped inside of a special Clapp’s Pressure Cooker asking for a little air. Pressure cookers are the way to keep all of the vitamins and minerals available for your young child to eat. Picture No. 4 says “Next came a trip through a strainer” which is where the food for the babies has to go. Picture No. 5 shows the Doctors very happy as they get a good look at the carrot which has already been through the Pressure Cooker and Strainer. Picture No. 6 shows a very happy baby who has just had his portion of Clapp’s Strained Carrots and who knows what else. The ad talks about the concept of rationing which was so important during the war years. The text insists that you can help “by using Clapp’s Baby Foods only for babies.
