Campbell's Soup Ad 1960 AugustFull color 9 1/2″ x 13″ ad that talks about the value of Campbell’s Quality. This ad starts off with the saying that “To make the best, begin with the best – then cook with extra care” and then shows a photo of a scientist from Campbell’s working on a plant with very precise testing and record keeping. The headline of the article is “The Ph.D with dusty shoes” and then goes into “How Campbell scientists remodel vegetables to bring better eating to your table”. It then says that “Giving nature a helping hand isn’t always an easy job. But in Campbell’s staff of 26 dedicated scientists, crossbreeding thousands of different strains to get just one better vegetable is an all-day, every-day business. Even the best has been improvedCampbell, as you know, uses lots of vegetables. We’ve worked hard to improve them, too. Good examples are carrots, peas, peppers and, of course, the Campbell Tomato. We’ve spent 50 years bringing it to the famous red color and goodness you enjoy so much in our soups and juices, Or take okra as another example. The man in the picture is a Campbell Ph.D engaged in experimental work on more than 100 different okra strains”. This text continues on with Okra’s ornery ways were changed and A good beginning makes a happier ending, two very interesting topics.
