Description

Campbell’s Ad April 1964Full color 10″ x 13 1/2″ ad with a picture of a tabletop with several pieces of vegetable on it. At the back there are a red pepper, a piece of carrot, a mushroom and a tomato while, sitting very proudly, there is a piece of okra sitting in the front. The ad headline asks the question “What is this odd little vegetable in Campbell’s “Hall of Fame”? It’s so great in soup-making that Campbell spent 22 years making it better”. If you are unsure just what this is you have to go to the end of the first paragraph to find out. It is Okra, I know because I had to go there. The ad claims that Campbell’s people wanted it so badly that they redesigned it. The ad claims that they redesigned the size of it’s leaves so they were smaller and less likely to hide the pod. They claim that there are many other vegetables that this story could be told about.
