Description

Baker's Ad 1938Full color 9 1/2″ x 13 1/2″ ad with information on how to make an Ice Box Cake that is “Luscious with Baker’s Chocolate”. The ad has a large picture of a very enticing cake with several slices taken from it and says that you’ll be a Social Hit! if you use this recipe. The four-frame cartoon tells a story of a lady who is nervous about having a snooty Mrs. “Banker” Jones over to her house along with the rest of the Club Committee tomorrow. Her friend urges her to make her “wonderful Ice Box Cake” to break the ice. After the meeting refreshments are offered but Mrs. Jones raises her nose in the air and retorts “I’m on a diet”. She gets a look at the cake and the ice is broken with a smile and a “I can’t resist that”. The last frame has the two ladies, now good friends, planning a tea at Mrs. Jones’s house on the following day. The ad contains a recipe card for this cake and directions on how to make it.
