Description

American Airlines Ad February 1944Full color 9 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ wartime ad with the goal of assuring the public that some things could be depended upon. The ad has a picture of several farms on a day when the snow lies deep on the ground. The left side of the picture is in daylight and the right is after nightfall and, in the middle, is a low-hanging Earth with a plane flying on the left and another flying on the right. The ad text makes the simple yet wordy promise that “Every second of every hour – Of every day – and every night – In every season – Flagships are in the air – Saving transportation time – And countless man-hours – Expediting our nation’s work.” This ad is larger than my scanner bed so the outer edges of the ad will not be visible in the scanned view.
