Description

Carnation Ad 1952Full color 9 1/2″ x 13 1/2″ ad for Carnation Evaporated Milk. This ad shows a beautiful cake with Butterscotch Icing on it and there are already several pieces missing and another one cut and ready to be served. The ad states that “It takes Carnation Milk for thiese 2 New Tricks with Cake Mix. No other form of milk will do”. Below this is a two-page booklet with the Page #1 entitled “Inside…For A Higher And Lighter Cake”. It then says that “With any cake mix that calls for milk, or in you own cake recipe, do this: Instead of ordinary milk use a mixture of two parts Carnation Evaporated Milk and one part water. Since Carnation is good whole milk concentrated to double-thickness, this mixture of two-parts Carnation and only one part water is far richer in milk solids and butterfat”. For Page #2, it starts off with “Outside…Whipped Butterscotch Icing”. It then says that it “(Makes Icing For two-8-inch layers) 1/3 cup butter; 3/4 cup brown sugar; 1/4 teaspoon salt; 1/4 teaspoon vanilla; 2 1/4 cups sifted confectioner’s sugar; 1/2 cup undiluted Carnation Milk. More information is on the ad.
